Twisted
"Twisted! The Musical" is an evocative and resonant continuation of Charles Dickens’ classic "Oliver Twist," set 15 years after the heart-wrenching death of Nancy. The story unfolds in the bustling yet harsh streets of Victorian London, where we find Oliver Brownlow, now a young man striving to make a difference in a city marred by inequality and social injustice.
At the heart of this tale is Jane, a resilient flower girl grappling with the trials of her gritty reality. As she and Oliver's paths cross, they embark on a journey filled with hope, despair, love, and resilience. However, their quest for a better life is complicated by three dynamic antagonists who symbolise the multifaceted nature of adversity. These characters embody societal issues such as economic disparity, systemic injustice, and violence, providing a layered and compelling narrative that resonates with both Victorian themes and modern-day challenges.
The musical features an original score that weaves together heartfelt ballads, energetic ensemble numbers, and poignant moments, complemented by captivating choreography and dynamic performances. "Twisted!" not only honours the legacy of Lionel Bart's original work but also reinterprets it in a contemporary context, exploring themes of empowerment, community, and the fight against oppression.
